LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is, like the X.500, both an
information model and a protocol for querying and manipulating, but
approaches based on LDAP are more popular and modern than the X.500.
The directory maintains the information about the organizational structure
and people.
The academic network community in Poland is interested in switching from the X.500
to LDAP and the design of the global directory service.
The LDAP project started in December 2001.The Wroclaw Centre for Networking and Supercomputing
joined the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre, NASK,
and Nicholas Copernicus University.
