STATUS: CURRENT

The PIONIER network is a nationwide broadband optical network providing a basis for scientific research and development in the area of computer science and telecommunications, computational sciences (grids, etc.), applications and services for the information society. Built entirely from the funds of the State Committee for Scientific Research (KBN), it currently connects 21 centres of Municipal Academic Networks and 5 High Performance Computing Centres by means of its own optical fibre connections.

The main objective of the PIONIER network is to operate the entire Polish academic and scientific community and to support research and educational projects carried out by this community.

The PIONIER network is built by the PIONIER Consortium. It is a formal agreement between leading MAN and NDC units. The PIONIER Consortium defines the directions of development, policy of using the PIONIER network, the principles of its exploitation, management and cooperation with other domestic and foreign institutions.
