PRACE-LAB 2

STATUS: CURRENT

PRACE-LAB2 – Cooperation in the extent of advanced computing in Europe is a continuation of the PRACE-LAB project. The main goal of the project is to provide specialized e-infrastructure for analytics of large volumes of data and other advanced computing HPC services, including those related to artificial intelligence and machine learning as well as simulation of quantum computing.
In a broader perspective, the project is expected to improve the position of the Polish economy on European and global markets by development of innovative solutions created in cooperation by the private sector (with particular emphasis on SMEs) and the science sector. Development work carried out under PRACE-LAB2 focuses on providing modern container solutions inside the cloud and new services, incl. HPCaaS (HPC as a Service), GPUaaS, providing accelerators inside the cloud - IaaS, emulation of quantum computing, Big Data analytics or rendering of visualizations. Works are divided between four specialized laboratories responsible for individual elements of the e-infrastructure and services which are being built:
  • Laboratory of HPC e-infrastructure
  • Laboratory of service platforms
  • Laboratory of next-generation computing services
  • Laboratory of large-scale data analysis.
Tools and services designed under PRACE-LAB 2 are created especially for enterprises, also from the SME sector, government and local government administration and research units from universities, institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences and state research institutes. The project is being carried out by a Consortium composed of:
  • Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences – Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (project leader)
  • AGH University of Science and Technology – The Academic Computer Centre CYFRONET AGH
  • National Centre for Nuclear Research
  • Gdańsk University of Technology – Centre of Informatics Tricity Academic Supercomputer and network
  • Wrocław University of Technology – Wroclaw Centre for Networking and Supercomputing
  • EIP SA.
